KEY STAGE 2 

Our education programme is tailored to meet the national curriculum, whilst our interactive sessions and exciting activities on site will ensure that our young visitors will have fun during their visit! 

We cater for children from Foundation to Key Stage 3 - We can tailor any workshop to meet your needs and teaching requirements.

Due to the changes in the National Curriculum, Statfold is reviewing the sessions we deliver to reflect the changing needs. If you have any specific requirements please talk to us as we may be able to adapt or tailor our current provision to meet your needs. We also welcome any suggestions for new sessions. 

Your visit will start at 10.30am and last until approximately 2pm. Your bespoke workshop will last between 45 minutes and an hour-and-a-half, depending on which visit you are taking part in.

Pupils will get to finish off their day with a ride on a steam train or our vintage tram (the last of it's kind), which offers a range of child-friendly souvenirs and hot and cold drinks. We also offer a  have a large indoor lunch area for you to use for packed lunches along with plenty of toilet facilities. Teachers are welcome to tea and coffee at anytime on-site. 

THE POWER OF STEAM

This session if good for key stage 2 students who are covering ‘Properties and Changes of Materials’ and The Industrial Revolution. Engage with the scientific concepts and the engineering aspects within the railway environment. Who built the very first railway? For what were narrow gauge railways used? Join one of our railway engineers and learn hands on all about how and why railways were built! Work together to create a history timeline, and explore all the different locomotives in the museum.

  • Water, Fuel & Fire: Museum Exploration. Self – lead or guided museum activity.

  • Tram or train ride.

 

Curriculum Links: Events beyond living memory that are significant nationally. Learning about the lives of significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements. Significant historical events, people and places in their own locality. Exploration and identification of everyday materials used in industry.

BACK IN TIME – THE PEOPLE OF THE PAST (RAILWAY EVOLUTION)

Using role-play, storytelling and costume, pupils explore the ways of life of people in the past. Detective work handling original objects helps pupils to understand the similarities and differences between the past and the present. Pupils ask and answer questions and develop their understanding of old and new, then and now and changes over time.
