As well as working on returning the K1 to steam we’ve been busy here at Statfold making improvements to the Trust’s maintenance facilities here at the museum.
We can now proudly unveil our new workshop with the first two locomotives already in and work waiting to start, this facility gives the Trust its own workshop to help maintain the Statfold collection.
This new workshop also features a viewing gallery which enables members of the public to view the work that the Trust is carrying out to the collection.
The two locomotives currently in the works are Hudswell Clarke ‘Fiji’ 972 of 1912 and Fowler ‘Saccharine’ 13355 of 1912. Saccharine is undergoing its 10-year boiler examination and Fiji is having work carried out to the motion and wheelsets, however while this work is being undertaken the 10-year boiler examination will be brought forward.
These locomotives will be able to be viewed for the first time in public in the Museum Workshop at the March Enthusiast Day more details of which can be found here.
